Red Deer Rock n’ Gem Show

Our Rock Club had a table at the Red Deer Rock n’ Gem Show yesterday.

We displayed a number of member-made items on our table (beadwork items by Carolyn (Lady Beadle); fold-formed items by Ron; hand-forged copper bowls by Doug; and wire-wrapped and silversmith items by me).

Ron, Doug, and Tony took turns giving fold-forming demonstrations for onlookers (using an anvil mounted on a hardwood stump) and gave the resultant copper “leaves” to visitors.

Tony and I ground and polished rocks into cabochons on the genie.

Carolyn did beadwork at the table.

I had intended to take a photo of the display table…but forgot in my single-minded focus on getting cabochons made or fine-tuned.

Fossil legislation changes initiative

I want to give a shout-out to Chris, co-owner of Silver Cove, for his diligent efforts to drive changes to Alberta’s existing fossil legislation. He provided printed brochures and petition forms to all who attended the rock show and were willing to add their voices in support.

Check out his website, www.savealbertafossils.org, for more information.
